Seaside Holidays In The Past

Follow the story of a Victorian lady Lillie and her husband Frank, as they holiday in Blackpool.

During this 2hr workshop pupils will listen to a postcard written by Victorian lady, Lillie. They will discover why her husband Frank was scratching so much and why Lillie didn’t want to go into the water! Pupils will be immersed in role-play, meeting the grumpy boarding house lady the dipper lady!

A boy and a girls will be chosen to wear Victorian bathing costumes. Is there a boy who can strut his stuff?!

Pupils will handle artefacts, discovering what Victorians did for entertainment, and what souvenirs they bought.

The workshop will focus on

  • How Victorians travelled
  • Holiday accommodation
  • Entertainment, including fairground rides
  • What people wore at the seaside
  • Victorian souvenirs
